Millig Creek - N Gauge

Millig Creek was inspired after a couple of visits to the US over a number of years by a club member  and also when Union Pacific decided to renovate one of the world's largest steam locomotives, number 4014, 4-8-8-4, known as the 'Big Boy'. The club had inherited a model of the locomtive from one of its earliest members several years before.

The layout comprises three independendent ovals which can operate in dc or dcc mode. The reasoning behind the layout is as follows. The lower single track line was built early last century following the contours of the land to service the needs of the area around the town of Millig Creek and was extended later to act as a bridging line between two class one railroads. With the introduction of double stack containers and autotracks, the single line rapidly became a bottleneck and it was decided to build a new double track route, regardless of cost, through the mountains with a large bridge spanning the valley. The large bridge and a smaller bridge are key features at the front of the layout and due to the scale and scenery, long realistic trains can be run to great effect on the layout.

The red sandstone bluffs were made with polystyrene covered in plaster bandages and smoothed with the covering paint.

The layout is 13' by 4' with dc or dcc control
